We Are The Endangered Species

This piece describes the feeling of living in our current times, the contradictions we embody daily, and how our expectations of a bright future directly collide with the harsh reality of an unsustainable economy/politics/production system & dangerously diminishing global biodiversity, to name some. The main character portrayed oscillates between climate overwhelm and apathy, referencing young people’s main feelings towards the crisis.

Graphenstone paint on canvas, 150 x 70 cm

The original painting is available.

The painting was commissioned by Adblock Bristol, an organization that reclaims advertisement billboards to change its content from corporate to cultural and artistic. The theme was Climate Justice & Social Justice, and Laura had complete freedom of creation for the composition and painting. The painting was exhibited in a 6 x 3m billboard in the centre of Bristol UK, during July and August 2023.

Environmentally friendly art

Through her work, she highlights the importance of promoting sustainable art and raises awareness about the need to preserve the planet. She paints with carbon-capturing paint. Three 15-litre buckets of that paint absorb more than 10 kg of CO2 (during the curing process), the same amount as an adult tree weighing 250kg in one year.
